This month, we are raising awareness of oral health is importance to systemic health. Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease, is associated with systemic health conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and Alzheimer's disease, to name a few. For those at risk or currently suffering from these diseases, it’s crucial to maintain oral health for future health and wellness.

Routine Care

While many are aware that visits to their dentist are essential, they might not know the reasons why. This month helps to shine a light on the importance of routine dental cleanings, and checkups with your dentist. By seeing your dentist and hygienist routinely, you are much more likely to catch things before they become a bigger problem! Early detection of cavities, gum disease, and infections are all major benefits of seeing your dentist on a routine basis. This proactive approach to your health can give you peace of mind and confidence in your oral health management.

Preventive Care

Oral hygiene month is a great time to remind us why brushing and flossing at home is so crucial to good oral health.  Brushing helps remove plaque, a sticky film of bacteria that forms on your teeth. If plaque is not removed, it can lead to cavities and gum disease. Flossing is particularly important for removing plaque and food particles from between the teeth and under the gumline, where a toothbrush can’t reach. These simple yet effective practices are within your control and can significantly improve your oral health.
