HealthyGumz was founded by two periodontal specialists who shared a vision for patient education. Their goal was to inform the public about factors related to gum disease and the secondary health effects associated with this common infection.
As graduates of UCLA and Harvard respectively, these colleagues had a special affinity for research and evidence-based dentistry. However, while in private clinical practice, they both realized the general lack of patient awareness as it relates to the impact of periodontal disease on their lives.
After nearly two decades of caring for patients, this team of periodontists chose to focus on an awareness strategy to bridge the gap when it came to education and battling such a severe, prevalent disease.
With a passion for teaching, and joining with their friend from the tech world, this team’s vision became a reality, and HealthyGumz was born. HealthyGumz would serve as an online educational platform to help bring light to the oral-systemic health connection as it relates to gum disease and major medical conditions.
Extensive scientific research shows that gum disease is not just a localized oral infection. The relationship it has with your body is chronic, serious, and widespread. Unfortunately, as with other silent diseases, periodontal infections can go undiagnosed for years, until it’s too late.
Chronic gum disease is proven to increase the risk of serious medical conditions, such as stroke, diabetes, heart attack, pneumonia, stillbirth, and others. Early treatments don’t just save your smile, they could potentially save your life.
At HealthyGumz, we believe that it’s important to empower people with the information they need to be proactive about their oral health. Through education, we can destruct critical barriers to healthcare, minimize anxiety/dental phobia, and help dental patients be better prepared to make decisions related to their oral care.
Ultimately our goal is to not just save smiles but to also improve the total wellness of the general public through preventative dentistry and early-intervention screenings.
